Timelapse of building boat design number 2. “Wilson”
We had to rethink our boat design after our first kayak “Noah” (R.I.P NOAH!!) was to be frank a disaster. Below is a timelapse of the construction in hand, you can witness in this video the AWF film crew and Lucie Buckland getting gradually more sunburnt, the redness on their backs is a dead give away!
The Plastic Marathon
We are fully underway with the Plastic Marathon!!
The Plastic Marathon is an event which we have created to raise awareness for sustainability, and to raise funds for an innovative project called “Plant a Tree, Fund A Dream”.
Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream is a project initiated by AWF which provides education to children in Africa who have succeeded in planting and caring for trees in order to rebuild African forests. Therefore this project not only benefits the environment but also entire communities in Sierra Leone and other African nations
We plan to kayak the 44km stretch between the Canarian islands of Tenerife and La Gomera, in a kayak made almost entirely of recycled plastic bottles, made by us volunteers at AWF. The event will tie in with Climate Week (12th – 18th March 2012) and is registered as an official Climate Week event. Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign, inspiring a new wave of action to create a sustainable future. Culminating in a week of activities, it showcases practical solutions from every sector of society.
We are filming the making/fledging/journey of our modest vessel, with the aid of a trusty RIB and our talented camera crew. The documentary will be submitted to various conservation and paddling film festivals, with the hope of highlighting the importance of recycling and supporting sustainable community-based conservation projects!
Commercial whaling protest, in the summer of ’10
Upon outrage of the issues surrounding the International Whaling Cimmittee meeting on the 21st of June to discuss a lifting of the 24 year whaling ban, a group of AWF volunteers took it upon themselves to raise awareness of the situation to the residents and the tourists of Puerto Colon.
